The summer holidays are upon us!

summer holidays planWith two primary school-aged children about to break on summer holidays, and with our family plan to spend as much time with them as we can, we have been battening down the hatches and closing down as much non-critical work as we can here at marketingondemand.

Cards have been written, thanks offered, and after tomorrow’s final assembly we will have two energised and excited children ready to enjoy an active and interesting summer.

Which is great, and it’s what we signed up for, but fitting in some income-earning work at the same time can be a challenge. Even from talking to other working parents and having worked through three previous holidays, I have yet to see a perfect solution that makes everyone happy at the same time.

Luckily the children are old enough to entertain each other for short periods of time, they get on really well (most of the time) and the only issue with their creative games is the trail of untidiness these seem to generate. I am also an early riser and work best in the mornings, so with these two factors in place I can organise essential work and plan it in around down time and other sunny activities.

Planning our summer holidays

Each year we make a list of things we want to do for fun, arrange any classes or workshops, and set up time to spend with friends. Most clients are in a similar down-time phase at least through August, and what time I have can be spent either on essential items for them, or for sense-checking where we are against plan for the last quarter of the year, getting us ready to hit the ground running as soon as school is back on.

So this year we are looking forward to fun in the sun with friends, reading our holiday list books, re-watching favourite films and inevitably seeing what we can make from loombands. I am very lucky in that I can choose to spend some precious time with the children, I hope that you can achieve this balance too and that you have a fabulous summer, whether working or playing.

While there may not be a perfect solution, with some good planning and creative use of time we should be able to make good use of our time, and we may be as excited as the children about some of our intended fun.

If we can support you with any marketing, social media or copywriting work over the next few weeks, then please do get in touch, we can always juggle plans to support new and existing clients – call or email us and let us know how we can help support you so that you can enjoy your summer holidays too, however you choose to.
